Press Review SPD

I have just read an article in Werner Leitner's blog "Myblogleitern.blogspot.com" and it talks about St. Patrick's Day.
Basically what it says is that on this day, all the people in Ireland celebrate St. Patrick, who was one of the first catholic missionarys in Ireland. It also says that St. Patrick died on 17th March in 461 in County Down. So the Irish people celebrate St. Patrick's Day on 17th March.

What surprised me most was the fact that on St. Patrick's Day people even dye their food and their drinks green. What shocked me most was the fact that in Chicago the Chicago River is dyed green.

As for me, I believe that people nowadays only celebrate St. Patrick's Day because it is a national holiday and they do not have to work. I don't celebrate St. Patrick's day.

St. Patrick´s day

Who was St. Patrick?

St. Patrick was one of the patron saints of Ireland. He was born in Great Britain in the year 387 A.D.. When St. Patrick was 16 years old, he was captured by Irish raiders. The Irish raiders took him to Ireland and made him a slave to work in the fields for 6 years. One day, St. Patrick had a dream. The dream told him to leave Ireland. He escaped and it is believed, that he walked almost 200 miles to the Irish coast and went back to Great Britain.
Back in Great Britain, St. Patrick had another dream which told him to return to Ireland as a missionary. After 15 years of religious training he was finally ready to go back to Ireland. St. Patrick went to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity. When St. Patrick got to Ireland he realized that the Irish wouldn´t convert him right away, so he decided to include ancient Irish cultures in Christianity. St. Patrick lived the rest of his life in Ireland working as a missionary. He died on March 17, 460 A.D.

How is St. Patrick´s Day celebrated?
You can go to the Chicago River which is dyed green. Everybody wears green clothes. There are a lot of parades and fireworks on St. Patrick´s day.

Where is St. Patrick´s day celebrated?
St. Patrick´s Day is celebrated in Ireland. The day is a national holiday of Ireland: it is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland and a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland. St. Patrick´s Day is also celebrated in Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. But there it is not an official holiday.

Dress Codes

Advantages:
♥ there are no differences between the poor and the rich ones
♥ school uniforms might be less expensive than "normal clothes"
♥ you know what to wear every day

Disadvantages:
♥ everybody looks the same
♥ wearing the same every day will get boring
♥ maybe students would like to have their own style

Own Opinion:

At our school there are no rules about what to wear. I am very glad about this, because if every girl at school wore the same clothes like me, I would go crazy. I think school uniforms are not so good, because every student should decide for himself/herself what he/she likes to wear. I also like to show my style, so school uniforms would be nothing for me. ;-)

Last English Lesson

Today we had our last English lesson befor Christmas. So we were allowed to work on our Blog.

Snow is fallin, all around me

My book report

I'm preparing a book report about the book "All American Girl - Ready or Not" by Meg Cabot. I chose this book because I think it is a very interesting and funny book.

Meg Cabot: She was born on February 1st, 1967 in Bloomington. After graduating from the university Meg Cabot moved to New York City. She married financial writer and poet Benjamin D. Egnatz on April 1st, 1993.
After living in Indiana, California, New York and France, she now currently resides in Key West, Florida.
Meg Cabot has written many novels for children, teenagers and adults, under several pen names: Meg Cabot, Meggin Cabot, Patricia Cabot and Jenny Carroll. She has also written many types of novels, including historical romances and young adult series with themes of mystery and paranormal suspense. Her books have sold over 15 million copies in the world.
In October 2004, Meg Cabot was namend as an author of the month by "The Guardian".

About my book: Samantha Madison, still teen ambassador to the United Nations, is dating the President's son David. She is worried that David wants to take their relationship to "the next level". Samantha is still a semi-celebrity for saving the President's life. The President recently announced his "Return to Family" campaign. It includes plans to limit access to abortion and birth control. During this time, Sam's sister Lucy is conflicted because she has fallen in love with her SAT tutor, who does not return her ardor....
